2016 Golf Tournament CANCELLED

We regret to inform our fans that our Golf Tournament scheduled for Friday, June 17 at. the legendary Applewood Golf Course in Golden, Colorado has been cancelled.

Our early sign ups we’re so small and so few, that we would have been at a great financial loss if we had continued to host the tournament.   If we had enough interest we had considered postponing the tournament to allow more players & teams but sadly we were a long way from even doing that.  Also, Applewood Golf Course, was very easy to work with but they didn’t have apple fritters and had no idea what we were talking about when we tried to order some.

While we hoped that this would be a money making event for our scholarships, we would have been happy that our first golf tournament in over 15 years would have just been a broke even event this year so we could build on it for the future.  But the interest and the participation was not there for break-even.

We will begin refunding prepaid entrance fees as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding on this matter.   If you want more information, have questions, etc., please email the club at ouclubofco@gmail.com.

Early May, Golf Tournament Newsletter

The inaugural Crimson & Cream Classic is just around the corner. Sooner fans, this is your chance to get out to the links for a good cause other than enjoying a cold one while enjoying the best state to be in for the summer. We have heard the call from our Sooner Nation in Colorado to have a golf tournament in Colorado. Our committee (Jeff, Dave, and Ed) have been working hard to ensure this inaugural event is a success and they have done a tremendous job. It is now up to you, Sooners, to register for this event. We are looking to show the university (although I think they know already) that this is the best DAMN alumni chapter in the nation and we are more than a group who watches football and drinks beer.

Applewood Golf Course in Golden, will be the site of the tournament. We need 25 teams to make this event successful. So, grab your three of your best golfers and make your foursome a force to be reckoned with on Friday, June 17 at 1:30pm. We will also have a reception right after the tournament and of course all profits for this event will go to scholarships for Colorado high school students looking to go to the best university EVER!

Click the link below to register with the Eventbrite site by Sunday, May 15.If you have questions about the event, please shoot us an email – ouclubofco@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your support of the OU Club of Colorado and its drive for scholarships.

Extended Sooner Seasons
It is a superb year to be a Sooner! Buddy and the Men’s BBall squad in the Final Four with a legitimate shot at OU’s first basketball national championship. The Sooner Women’s BBall squad making the Big Dance for the 17th straight year. Ladies Softball poised to make another run for all the marbles. Gymnastics on the verge of history with both teams ready to bring home a national championship. Oh and there was that little ol’ college football playoff thing.

For the Final Four, we will be at the award winning Stoney’s Bar and Grill (voted best place to watch sports in Denver). Tip is at 4:09pm MST, so make sure you get there early for the best seats. We will have our game day menu and drink specials. There might even be some t-shirts for sale to celebrate this little bit of Sooner history. Since we will not be playing our fellow Big XII foe, we will have the ENTIRE bar to ourselves. Let’s beat last week’s basketball watch party record of 200 by packing the house Saturday.

Check the local listings (or our social media) for updates and game times!

Nuggets/Thunder Game Night with the OU Club of Colorado
There are still a few seats left for the annual Night Out with the Nuggets (Thunder). The Nuggets organization has offered our club a fantastic deal for lower level seats. Our friends from Oklahoma State and Tulsa have been invited as we share one love for either team. I mean I guess you can have two loves for two teams or no love for any team…. Well, come on out Tuesday, April 5 at 7pm MST to share a fun night out with friends.

For questions about the event, please feel free to email ouclubofco@gmail.com. To get your ticket(s) today visit:

Yell Fore, Shoot Six, Write Down Five
The inaugural Crimson & Cream Classic is really taking shape. I am excited to share that the event site will be live soon. Sooners that are fans of the links will have their chance to showcase their skills at Applewood Golf Course in Golden. We will have the registration page up soon and will make sure you get the link, but mark your calendar now for Friday June 17th! The great thing about this event is you do not have to be a golfer to get in on the fun. We will have a party right after the tournament and of course all profits for this event will go to scholarships for Colorado high school students looking to go to the best university EVER!

I will leave you with this quote from Phyllis Diller….

Record Breaking Season for the OU Club of Colorado
While the season of destiny did not turn out as we had hoped, hats off to the football team for a great year. Could not be more proud to be a Sooner! A successful season on the field ties directly to a successful season off the field for the OU Club of Colorado. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors Stoney’s Bar & Grill, Coors Light, Patron, Sooner Legends Hotel, and Sooner Spectator Magazine and the generosity of our alumni members from Colorado, we once again raised over $10,000 for scholarships. I know I speak on behalf of the other officers when I say, I could not be more proud of your dedication to our future Sooners.

Also, our attendance at Stoney’s, for the entire year, broke 5000 for the first time in our five year history with the bar. I am not sure what the number would be of gallons of beer consumed, but I am sure it is enough to make the Coors family want to hug each one of us. Special shout out goes to our to our hosts, Stoney and Will as well as VJ Aaron. Thanks for making this the best gameday experience outside of Owen Field in the nation.

Basketball Brings Excitement to 2016
While we only had 8 Sooner fans out for Big Monday on January 4 versus our nemesis Chalk Rock Hayjawks, the Sooner men’s basketball team proved they are final four worthy by taking KU the distance in 3 overtimes. Pretty sure we are going to beat that team like a drum in Norman. Our 8 fans held their own against the 300+ Jayhawk fans. We would love to see more fans out to support basketball.

Here are five reasons why you should consider joining us at Stoney’s for a Sooner basketball experience….

1) You can show up 5 minutes after the game has started and have a guaranteed seat.
2) Same great beer specials with the 2015-16 membership card.
3) Two hour investment rather than a six hour investment with football.
4) Neither I or Daniel “D-Day” Dayton is performing karaoke on the microphone.
5) Because outside of men’s gymnastics, this is out best chance for a National Championship this year.

Basketball Watch Party Dates:
Saturday, January 30, 3pm vs. LSU
Saturday, February 13, 12pm vs Kansas
Saturday, February 27, 12pm vs saxeT
March 9-12, Big XII Tournament, Time TBD

Saluting Our Military Sooners
Words cannot express the appreciation for all that our veterans have done to make this the greatest country in the world. From the OU Club of Colorado, we say thank you to all those that have served and those that are currently serving.

Last year, OU honored Bob Kalsu. He earned All-America honors in 1967 as an offensive tackle while helping the Sooners to a Big 8 Championship. Kalsu was selected in the eighth round of the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills in 1968, but his professional career was cut short. Kalsu was called to join the U.S. Army’s highly decorated 101st Airborne Division. On July 21, 1970, he was killed by North Vietnamese mortar fire. He was the only pro football player to be killed during the Vietnam Conflict.

NOW is the Time to Pack the House
The OU Club of Colorado is excited to announce that our Associate Vice President for the Alumni Association, JP Audas will be making his first ever appearance at our watch party. JP received his undergraduate degree from OU in 1987 and has been an OU employee since 1993. During this time, he has recruited and worked with students, developed relationships with alumni & friends in his role as an OU fundraiser. So, come on out to Stoney’s on Saturday and let’s show JP why we have the best alumni club in the entire nation! Game starts at 6pm, but come early to claim your front row seat for the Baylor Beat Down!

Upcoming Sooner Saturday at Stoney’s- OU vs Baylor
Your OU Club of Colorado is on a pace to set a new attendance record for this season. From the 85 strong that watched OU thrash the Cyclones to the 625 that supported the Sooners even in non-win (never a loss) to saxeT, we have continued to have great crowds. With a prime time slot, the Sooners head to Waco where Lee Corso will no doubt slip on the bear head for his pick. Your club officers will be at Stoney’s starting at 4pm. Thank you for your donations through membership dues and t-shirt purchases. We still have t-shirts for sell and they make wonderful holiday gifts! You will also have the chance to purchase additional raffle tickets for a very special giveaway, which was donated by a very generous club member. Coors Light will also be on hand with a very awesome prize for one lucky Sooner fan. With all of this excitement, you have no excuses not to make it out for the game. See you Saturday for OU vs Baylor in a prime-time match up.  Game Time is 6p Mountain Time, but again, we recommend you all showing up early for the best seats!

We will have our local auctioneer Daniel “D-Day” Dayton calling out bids during halftime. Own a piece of history as this is one of only 300 uniforms. The remainder of the uniforms are part of a campaign to raise funds for the Pride of Oklahoma. We just may have a few other items up for auction. Come early…leave happy!
